| I
have 3 acres of turf to maintain
and I need reliable equipment
to keep up with it. I bought this 1981 John
Deere 400 super garden tractor with a
5 foot deck to perform the mowing
chores. It also pushes snow in the
winter with a 54 inch front mount dual
angle blade. And if the snow gets
really deep I have a 50 inch front
mount snowthrower for it. The tractor
and attachments need some repairs and
paint work when I acquired them.
Fortunately I really enjoy taking
things apart and making them look and
work like new again. A
vintage John Deere like this holds it's value very
well. It was done all the depreciating it's
ever going to do before I bought
it. |

Successful Deere
hunting requires stealth. The trick is to
commando your way up to one
and get close enough to jump on the seat
before it can get away.

This
400 has a 3 point hitch, which was an
option on a 400. Why would you want a
tractor without one? A rear PTO was
available as well but it's an oddball
800 RPM unit and only works with the
JD tiller for the 400. I wonder what
the JD engineers were smoking when
they came up with that idea. |

This is the first 400 I ever owned and
it's been a great tractor. I bought it
from a WFM
member from Indiana.
