It's
done!
|
| Dad
spent most of the summer in 2010
finishing what turned out to be a 20
year project. He had the fenders
restored and painted by a local guy
who also did the red paint work. He
mostly does antique tractor
restorations and is highly regarded.
Dad and I were both nervous when we
went to pick the fenders up. Shiny
black paint is truth serum for metal
work. Our anxiety was misplaced
however. They turned out incredibly
nice.

| My
father brought the Merc back from
Cold Lake, Alberta. He
pulled the load with his
trusty F150 flat rack pickup,
which is powered by a 4
cylinder diesel engine out of
a Massey combine. The little
Perkins delivered all the
torque needed to climb some
giant hills he encountered on
the way back. It was coming
down them that made him wonder
if he'd get home without going
over a cliff. My mother
was with him and she said it
was a near death experience on
wheels till they got out of
the mountains.

The Mercury
was parked in front of my
aunt's house in Cold Lake at the
Canadian air base when dad and mom
arrived. It had been located only a few minutes
away from where she lived.
